James F. Whitney, 78, of Bevell Lane, North Syracuse , died Wednesday at his home.
Mr. Whitney was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He retired in 1972 after 30 years with New Process Gear Division of Chrysler Corp. Mr. Whitney was a 1930 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Amelia Porter; five daughters, Ellen ''Debbie'' Gerard and Bonnie Gedney, both of Liverpool, Judith Taylor of North Syracuse , Penney Gessini of Cicero and Diane Trombino of Morrisville; two sons, James Jr. of Mattydale and Dan of North Syracuse ; three brothers, John Whitney of Arizona, William Whitney of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Frank Royal of Liverpool; three sisters, Madeline Seaber of Syracuse , Agnes Clairborne of Oregon and Rosalyn Bohanon of California; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Giminiski-Wysocki Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1320 W. Genesee St.
