COALINGA, (Fresno, California) January 1,

Funeral services for James Gilbert, Former Coalinga resident, were held Monday in Oroville, where he died Saturday, following an illness of several years duration.

Gilbert, 43, was a member of the local firm of Dalsheim & Gilbert. He was a veteran of the World War. He is survived by his widow and one small child; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Dalsheim, and a brother, Edward Gilbert of Coalinga.

Death Ends 8 Years Illness For Local Man. Eight years of illness, ended for James F. Gilbert, 43, last night when he died at his home at 1254 Leah Court.

"Gilbert had lived in the Oroville district for 28 years, a period of which was spent in Thermalito. He was a native of Kansas City, MO. He was by trade an automobile mechanic but had not worked for the past eight years due to illness.

"When the United States entered the world war, Gilbert enlisted and served in this country. The Armistice was signed before he was sent overseas. He was honorably discharged.

"He was a charter member of Coalinga post of American Legion and later became affiliated with the Oroville post.

"Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Belva Ruth Gilbert, a daughter Carolann, two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Porter of Oroville and Mrs. Bertha Dalsheim of Coalinga, four brothers, Harlan E., Marion V., and Harry S. Gilbert, all of Oroville and William E. Gilbert of Coalinga [Fresno County].

"Graveside services will be held at Oroville cemetery Monday under auspices of Legion Post No. 95. The cortege will leave Hamilton and Rileys at 2:30 p.m.
