Mrs. Gilbert Dies After Long Illness. Death Puts End To Sufferings Of Matron. Mrs. Caroline Gilbert, the wife of E. A. Gilbert, died last evening at her home in this city, after an extended illness. Mrs. Gilbert was aged 62 years, and was a native of Indiana. She had been a resident of California for the past five years.
Mrs. Gilbert leaves to mourn her loss a husband and the following children: Harlen E. Gilbert of Columbia, South America; Mrs. Ida Porter, Marion V. Gilbert, Edwin Gilbert, Harry S. Gilbert, Mrs. Bertha Dalsheim and James F. Gilbert, all of Oroville.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later.

In Memoriam
Caroline M. Woods was born near Syracuse, Elkhart County, Indiana, on March 4, 1851. In June of 1869, with her family she moved to Miami County, Kansas, where she was married February 24, 1870 to Col. E.A. Gilbert. October 1, 1907, she with her family arrived in Oroville, where she resided until her death
About fifteen years ago she received a severe bruise on her right breast, which later developed into an ulcer and finally became a cancer. In August of 1911, she had an operation and later another one which did not retard the disease. For a year she was unable to lie down in a bed but sat in a chair night and day and finally died in the chair at seven o'clock Sunday evening, May 4, 1919, being at the time sixty-two years and two months old.
She was the mother of nine children; two did in infancy and are buried at Viola, Mercer County, Illinois.
She left her husband, Col. E.A. Gilbert, seven children and 2 grandchildren, all of whom, except the eldest, reside in Oroville. The youngest just became of age last April. The oldest, Harlen, is at present in Columbia, South America. The rest, Marion, Edward, Harry, James, Mrs. John Porter and husband, Mrs. Bertha Dalsheim and husband, also Edward's wife, were present when she passed away.
She also leaves three brothers, William, James and Charles Woods, living in Osawatomie, Kansas, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Billings of Somers, Montana and a half brother, John W, Woods, living at Parker, KS. – Oroville (Calif.) Mercury.
