Marion was an adventurous lad, born in Cedar Fort, Utah, the third child of Henry Franklin and Martha Wilcox Hacking. He had several injuries from his adventurous spirit, but he did not lose that spirit. In 1909 his family moved to Magrath, Alberta, Canada. By the time Marion was twelve he was hauling freight with the teamsters.

Marion attended schools in Utah, Canada, and in Archer, Idaho, where the family moved in 1914. He went to nearby Ricks Normal Academy in Rexburg for four years of high school and two of college. He graduated in 1922 and became principal of a school in Basalt, Idaho. He planned on teaching again but accepted an offer from Sheriff Harry Munns in Rexburg. He served as Madison County Deputy Sheriff from 1923-1929 during prohibition. He served as Chief of Police in Rexburg 1929-1930.

He married LaVerne Liljenquist June 3rd 1931 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. Their children are: Marjory, Roger, Donna, John, and Douglas. The three boys died in infancy. Marion worked for the International Harvester Company from 1930 until 1943 when he returned to farming. For a time he served as Constable. In 1963 Marion was elected probate judge. He served four terms, then was appointed magistrate.

He was chairman of the Republican County Committee and precinct committeeman from Archer for twenty years. For fifteen years he served on the Dist. 1 Flood Control board and helped organize flood control agencies in the state. On the legislative committee he studied and made recommendations for the state penal system including construction of a penitentiary near Boise. Marion has served as Elders Quorum President, MIA Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, stake Sunday School Superintendent and High Councilman in the Church of Jesus Christ of Letter Day Saints.

From March 1976 to October 1979 Marion and LaVerne served a mission in Slave Lake, Alberta, Canada, where he was Branch President and she was Relief Society President.

Just after his ninetieth birthday Marion said he was ready to die and he did. He had great love for his wife and daughters, brothers and sister, in fact all his extended family. He had a wonderful gentle disposition, caring about and helping others, and loving the Savior.
