Born as the 7th child of 11 to Henry Franklin Hacking and Martha Elnora Wilcox Hacking in Magrath, Alberta, Canada. The family moved to Archer Idaho where the family grew up on a farm. He was an excellent student and finished his primary and secondary education in 11 years. He attended Ricks College, but he needed to help his parents on their farm so he did not complete his formal education. However, he read everything he could get his hands on to become a very well self-educated scholar.
When Kenneth was a teenager, he wanted to be in scouting and convinced an adult to be the scoutmaster while Kenneth did all the work. He was involved in scouting all of his life and he inspired many of his children and grandchildren to acheive top levels in scouting.
Kenneth went on an LDS mission to Maine and met his sweetheart. Their life-long romance was inspirational to all those that knew them. Kenneth raised his family with his wife, Laurel Maud Small Hacking on a farm next to his parent's. Their eight children, including the contributor of this bio, are listed on the back of their headstone. They are also listed in Laurel's bio.
Kenneth was a man of great wisdom and wit. People often stopped in to ask his advice. He was always thoughtful and gave enough advice to be helpful, but never overpower his will on them. He often shared his wisdom in wonderful stories he told or witty sayings. He had great love for those around him and treated them with gentle kindness. He had great faith and integrity and he taught his children to work hard to accomplish their best with the talents with which the Lord had blessed them. One of Kenneth's talents was writing poetry.

One of many poems written by Kenneth E. Hacking:

My father was a man of might
I never saw him in a fight.
But I always felt, when I was young
That He could lick them all.

I always thought when I am grown
I'll be in battles of my own
I'll take on all the "toffs" and "tuffs,"
And I can lick them all.

Now I'm grown, in fact quite tall,
I never get in fights at all.
I spend my time collecting stamps
Arranging them in little clamps
And I can lick them all!
