Nancy Fitch Field Oudheusden died on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at age 76 after an eight year struggle with breast cancer. She was born in Utica, NY on July 11, 1939, daughter of Norma Joyce Fitch Field and John Weeks Field. She grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, got her Bachelor’s Degree at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, and her Masters from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. A perpetual student, Nancy continued to take photography courses throughout her life. In 1961 she married Rudolph E. Oudheusden.

Nancy lived for a year in Japan and Thailand, traveled to India and Germany, and even went on safari to Africa twice! She also traveled the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, and took photographs everywhere she went. Her last trip was to Italy with her daughters and granddaughters, with a cruise around Greece.

Nancy taught math at West High and East Jr. in Sioux City, Iowa; and at RFA and Staley in Rome, NY. She was a member of 1st Lutheran Church in Sioux City; 1st Presbyterian in Utica, NY; and First Lutheran in Blair, NE. Nancy was a long standing member and former chapter president of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Nancy loved to play piano, swim, dance, square dance, and take photographs. She won many ribbons and trophies from photography competitions.

Nancy would do anything for her two daughters; Melanie C. Young (Tim Crofut), and Julie Young (Tim). She attended every game and recital for her grandchildren – she was the lady with the smile and the cameras.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughters: Melanie C. Young (Tim Crofut) (grandchildren Keegan, Holden & Violet, great-grandchild Zaden), and Julie Young (Tim) (grandchildren John, Ben & Maggie), and her cousin Shirley Gates (Calvin).

Nancy was pre-deceased by her parents Norma Fitch Field and John Weeks Field, her brother John W. Field, Esq, and her granddaughter Calista Marie.

Many thanks to the nurses & doctors of Blair Memorial Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, and Methodist hospital of Omaha, Nebraska; and Hematology & Oncology of Brittenfield Parkway in Syracuse, NY for taking such excellent care of our mother, and making chemo-day seem more like a friendly social gathering. Thank you to all her friends from Red Hat Society, DAR, PEO, book club, and her cancer support group for taking turns sitting with her during chemo each week. Thank you to her friend Ruth Sather for being such a good and comforting listener.

There will be a memorial get-together on Sunday, April 2, 2016 from 2-5.
