Edith G. Reed, 101, of Hope, died at 4:03 a.m. today at Ken-Joy Convalescent Home at Hope. She and her husband were sextons of the Hope Moravian Church for many years. She was a member of Hope Moravian Church, Women's Fellowship, Ladies Mission Society, Ladies Society, True Blue Sunday School Class and Women's Christian Temperance Union.
Funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Douglas Rights at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Hope Moravian Church,. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Memorials may be made to Hope Moravian Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
Born October 31, 1887 south of Hope, Mrs. Reed was the daughter of John George Frederick and Clara Shore Schaefer. She was married to Chester B. Reed on August 23, 1913 at the Schaefer home near Hope. He died November 18, 1965.
Surviving are daughters, Lola Herndon and Reba Hitchcock, both of Hope; a niece whom she raised, Louise Graham Herron of Hope; a sister, Anna Hammett of San Francisco, California; seven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Albert Schaefer; sisters, Lelia Graham, Marie Johnson, Elizabeth Spaulding, and Georgia Golden; and a daughter, Ada Gene Reed.
