Lola A. Herndon, 93, of Hope passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope.
She was born in Hope July 1, 1919 to Chester B. and Edith Georgine Schaefer Reed. She was baptized on October 12, 1919, in the Moravian Church by Pastor W. H. Fluck and confirmed on Palm Sunday March 27, 1931, by Rev. F.G. Fulmer.
Lola played the violin in the Hope Moravian Church Orchestra and in the Hope School Orchestra. Lola was a member of the Hope Moravian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Kola Class and church choir. She was active in the history of the Hope Moravian Cemetery and a member of the Eastern Star in Hope. She was a farmer and loved cooking and mowing grass on her farm east of Hope.
Lola married Harold F. Herndon on July 14, 1940, at the Lewis Creek Wesleyan Church where Harold's grandfather John Herndon had given the land for the church to be built. Harold died in March of 1978.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ada Gene Reed, infant, and Reba Reed Titus Hitchock.
She is survived by children Charles Herndon (wife Deedie) of Frankfort, Rosemary Herndon Marquis (husband Noel) of Sedona, Arizona ,and Richard Herndon (wife Betsy) of Elwood; grandchildren, Jeff Herndon of Arizona, Tom Herndon of Noblesville, Ann Herndon Gosewehr of Frankfort, Lisa Herndon King of Lafayette, Michelle Scarpelli of Chicago, Nicole Barger of Franklin, and Carter Herndon of Elwood; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at Hope Moravian Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Van Orden officiating. Viewing will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
