Chester B. Reed of Hope, sexton at Hope Moravian Cemetery for 37 years, died unexpectedly at his home at 3:30 p.m., Thursday. He was 82.
Born in Bartholomew County December 21, 1882, Mr. Reed was the son of Benjamin and Rachel Drake Reed. He and his wife, the former Edith Schaefer, were married August 24, 1913, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1963.
An active member of Hope Moravian Church, he taught a Sunday school class there for 40 years and served as an elder for 30 years.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Reba Titus and Mrs. Lola Herndon of Hope; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The Reeds also reared two nieces, Mrs. Louise Herron of Hope and Mrs. Rachel Ross of Greensburg. A daughter, Adah Jean, died April 21, 1915.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday at Hope Moravian Church by the Rev. Charles Eichman. Burial will be at the Moravian Cemetery. Persons may call at Norman Funeral Home at Hope from noon Saturday until 11 a.m., Sunday when the casket will be moved to the church.
