Baldwin, GA - J.D. Ward, 77, of Highway 198 went to be with the Lord on Sunday,Dec. 31, 2000, at his home.
Born in Banks County, he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of Grant Reeves Post No. 7720, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of AARP and was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing Company and was retired from Grady Garment Company.
Surviving are widow, Pat Payne Ward of Baldwin; daughters, Carol Elrod of Mt. Airy, Cathy Rogers of Lula and DeAnn Downer of Cornelia; sons, David Ward of Mt. Airy, Kirby Ward of Calhoun and Milton Ward of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Tom Ward of Commerce; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Lemuel and Nettie Payne Ward. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Blalock Ward, and a son, Steven Ward.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Nails Creek Baptist Church by the Revs. Roy Rogers and Terry Rice; burial will be in the church cemetery with Rev. Gene Todd officiating at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin,
