Mrs. Lester Payne

Mrs. Earnie Mae Payne, 67, of Route 3, Carnesville, wife of Lester Payne, died Friday at BJC Hospital, Commerce, after an illness of one week.
Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Nettie Payne Ward and was born in Banks County, where she had lived all her life. She was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Agatha Barnes of Duluth, Minn.; two sons, Thomas L. Payne of High Point, N.C., and Barnett W. Payne of Asheboro, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Elden Kesler, Mrs. Donnie Wiley, and Mrs. Tom Cash, all of Carnesville; and Mrs. Buddy Pritchett of Thomasville, N.C.; four brothers, Glenn Ward of Toccoa, Thomas Ward of Commerce, Ralph Ward of Thomasville, N.C., and J. D. Ward of Baldwin; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nails Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. J. E. Cornette and the Rev. Terry Stowe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
