William Demetrius 'Mead' Johnson was born on 16 March, 1845, in Lagrange, Lorain Co., Ohio. His father, John, 24, and his mother, Esther, was 21. Mead married Caroline Elizabeth "Carrie" Williams on 19 March, 1863, in Lorain Co., Ohio. Together, they had six children:
1. Nellie Aguste Johnson (Wood

2. Charles Parker Johnson, 1874-1927
3. Jessie Mae Johnson (Jenson
Foster)
4. Johnson, 1880-
5. Ivy Lorain Johnson (Abshier) 1882-1965
6. Infant Johnson, death 1898

☆ William aka Mead Johnson
was a deputy Sheriff and was in the old Indian territory land run of 1893. He secured 160 acres of land between Kansas & Okla. He was well known in Kansas & Oklahoma.
He served twice in the Civil War and received a serious injury to his body. He was invited to take part of the GAR and helped to organize it in Ohio. He traveled a lot between Guthrie and Kansas and later became known as a Stonemason before his death.

Columbus Ohio.. at expuation of Service.. Re-inlisted 13 Augest, 1864, Private, Co., A, 66th Ohio Infintry.. to the end of war, 15th July 1865, Louisville Ky.
Injured; Partial Paralisis right side & face -during Civil War service
Death: 18 July 1903

[ He was to be buried in Leavenworth Kansas, but his family decided to bury him on his brother, John Wesley Johnson, land, in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma, in the Johnson Cemetery.
Pleasant Hill Cemetery was opened next to the family plots.
Death: 18 July 1903
Buriel: At 8 miles East of Guthrie Okla. Demetrius passed away from: Mitral Insufficiency is, which is (Mitral Valve). He passed in a Guthrie Okla., local hospital.

W. D. Johnson A bricklayer died at a local hospital at noon yesterday. He has a brother in Shawnee. Funeral Arrangements have not yet been made, though it is probable that the funeral will be Directed by the bricklayers Union.

Demetrius Johnson or Mead Johnson as he was generally referred to here, died of paralysis instead of consumption. Because of not getting the information in time in regard to the death his brother, E. B. Johnson was unable to go and attend the funeral.

Word has just been received here that W D Johnson of Kansas City, who about 4 weeks ago went to Oklahoma for the benefit of his health, Died about 9 miles of Guthrie on Saturday. Mr. Johnson was one of the early settlers in Kansas, coming here away back in the early Seventies, and was well known to many of our people. He was a brother to Mr. E B Johnson of this city.
