John DeJohn, 87, of 308 Chester Road,Geddes,died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.
Born in Clyde, he lived in Syracuse for 85 years. He retired after many years as a boxing manager. During his career, he was manager and trainer of two-time world champion Carmen Basilio. He was a communicant of St. Charles of Borromeo Church, a member of the Sons of Italy and an inductee to the Urban Boxing Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Central New York Boxing Appreciation Award by the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Survivors: His wife, the former Josephine Carioti; three daughters, Philomena Bartoszewski of Liverpool, Joanne Yeomans of Camillus and Jacqueline DeJohn of Syracuse; three brothers, Louis, Joseph and Thomas, all of Syracuse; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Farone & Son Funeral Home and noon in St. Charles of Borromeo Church. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. today and 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 1500 Park St., Syracuse.
