Louis DeJohn, 84 years young, passed away on New Year's Eve, December 31. Louie was a devoted loving father to his daughter, Cindy, and son-in-law Al Ciarpelli of Cicero, and stepdaughter, Shirley Olivieri of Liverpool. In addition, Louie is survived by grandchildren Jamie and Jonathan Ciarpelli, Joe (Lisa) Olivieri and Dawn Olivieri; two great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy DeJohn of Camillus; three sisters-in-law, Josephine DeJohn of Westvale, Monica Zingaro of Lakeland and Patty Corp of Auburn; two brothers-in-law, Steve Szpak of N. Syracuse and Andy Szpak of Camillus; and several nieces and nephews. Louie was a brother to the famous "Fighting DeJohns," an entire family of professional boxers. He was predeceased by brothers Johnny, Ralph, Carmen, Tony, Mike and Joey DeJohn. Every single brother he loved dearly and had a special bond with each one. Louie lost his loving wife, Julia "Sparky" (Szpak) in 1984. Louie served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS McKean-DD784 in the Pacific Theatre. Many thanks for the special care he received at the Syracuse VA Medical Center over the last several years; the VA staff cared for him honorably and compassionately at every level. Funeral services are private. No calling hours. Burial with honors will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
