Mrs. Philomena DeJohn, 57, mother of boxer Joey DeJohn, died yesterday morning at home, 1810 Butternut st. A native of Italy, Mrs. DeJohn lived in Syracuse more than 37 years. She was a member of the Madonna Del Carmine society and Sacred Heart society of Our Lady of Pompei church.
Mrs. DeJohn reared three fighters in her family of seven sons. Joey DeJohn is a widely-known middle weight contender. Her sons, Ralph and Carmen DeJohn, are former light-heavyweight boxers.
Other sons surviving are John, Louis, Thomas and Michael DeJohn, Jr. Mrs. DeJohn is survived also by her husband, Michael DeJohn, Sr., and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home and at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompei church, where a solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated by the Rev. William L. Walsh. Burial will be in Assumption cemetery.
