Bio
I am a native of Austin Texas, I have 3 children (two born in Austin and one in California). Have lived elsewhere during my life, but resided in Austin the majority of my life. My husband and I raised a 2nd family in 1995 (raising 3 grandchildren since 1995 when they were 1, 3, and 5). We moved to Oklahoma in December 2009 after we had both retired from IBM Austin.
I am a member of the DAR under patriot Moses CHERRY and am a member of the DRT under patriot Andrew MILLER. I also have a number of other patriot direct line qualifying for above and other wars, but have only submitted/approved on the above (as of 2021) but plan when I get the time to submit additional membership applications with the DAR under partriot GILL.
I've been doing genealogy research on my family since late 70's/early 80's when it required spending much time in the libraries and ordering micrrofilm to be borrowed from Salt Lake City and sent to my local LDS library. We've certainly come a long way since the 80's haven't we? We have so many online resources today and the databases get larger by the day.
I am a member of the Stephen F Austin (DRT) Daughters of the Republic of Texas (descendant of ANDREW MILLER line via my paternal line) and a member of the DAR in Ardmore, OK under MOSES DAWSON CHERRY partriot who is my 5th great grandfather (via their son: Samuel Torbert CHERRY & wife Sarah R Bell-Cherry's daughter: ELIZABETH ANN CHERRY who married ROBERT JAMES GILL whom are my 3rd great grandparents on my maternal line). The GILL line is what is termed the Fishing Creek Gill line (which also intertwines with the STRAIT family line from Fishing Creek).
I am also a descendant of the Benjamin Franklin CAGE Sr. who fought during the Republic of Texas day and Indian Wars. This is the CAGE/WINCHESTER/CAYCE from my maternal line.
My parents: Lynn Paul LEHMANN & Mildred Elbert SHELTON
My maternal grandparents: Mancel Elbert SHELTON & Myrtis Emma WEST
My paternal grandparents: Jesse Gaster LEHMANN & Adaline Melvina LYNN (much work in progress on my LYNN-McCAN/McCANN line also.
My Maternal great grandparents:
Steve S SHELTON & Rhoda HYATT
My maternal 2nd great grandparents:
John Elbert SHELTON and Sarah Frances BYRD (who was daughter of James M BYRD & Elizabeth BEVERS). BYRD and SHELTON are two surnames being worked heavily with my BYRD family DNA matches.
Having ancestry.com, findagrave.com, and autosomal DNA (eg ancestry and FTDNA ... so now making more progress in research tools available certainly helps us genealogy buffs.
I have been a member and volunteer at findagrave for abt 13 Years (as of 2021) and find it a great resource where we can pitch in and help each other from afar to locate our relatives. I thank all who have helped me and hope I have helped others too. I've made some very dear friends through findagrave and the various dna projects, so have changed by contributor page volunteer to our new zip code 73098 in OK (previously was 78729 in TX).
Some of my primary surnames being researched are: LEHMANN, YOUNG, McCAN/McCANN, FULCHER, DUCKWORTH, HYATT, SPERLING, HEISSIG, FRANKE, ECKHARDT, PORCHE, FUCHS, SHELTON, WEST, BIRD/BYRD, DOROUGH-DORROUGH, COCHRAN, DAVIS, CHERRY, MILLER, NEAL, LYNCH, DAVIDSON, OLIVER, NALLEY, TURNER, LOTT, GILL, CAGE, CAYCE, FOX, FRANKE, LEE, WALLACE, AIKMAN, TEAS, BLACKWELL, TEAGUE, HARRISON, and my husband's FRENCH ancestors direct line surnames (my husband also is one of our DNA project lines).
