BE NICE!
All of us Findagrave volunteers do what we do because we love being in old cemeteries, taking photographs, carefully transcribing information, and making all of this available to others. My genealogy and historic research has benefitted in a million different ways from the hard work others, and I try to pay them back (and pay it forward) by doing the same thing. That said:
* Mistakes happen. I'm always happy to fix mistakes, and it's rare that I don't accept an edit to a memorial (although I do look the changes over carefully and have, from time to time, rejected a change that was clearly incorrect). If you don't know how to suggest an edit, just drop me a line and I'll make the necessary correction.
* I'm usually happy to transfer memorials, and the transfer doesn't have to happen within the strict family guidelines that Findagrave suggests. Just ask nicely!
* I don't post cut-and-paste "information dumps" to my memorials from the census, SSDI, etc. They tend to clutter the memorial pages and can be difficult to read.
A bit about me ... I am a degreed arms historian, genealogist and cemetery buff living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My personal genealogical interests are mostly in the Philadelphia and McKean County, PA areas, with ancestral surnames that include Helms, Colflesh, Schick, Henry, Pile, Harned, Stroup, Mowday, Monago, Bonitate, Leone, Di Victoria, Monti di Sopra, Da Corte Cavalier, Soppelsa, and Maufioe.
I also do extensive research in and around the Connecticut Valley.
Of course, I have an interest in Louisiana cemeteries since I live here, and I do a lot of "cemetery photo mowing" as I wander about.
Please consider leaving a flower at the memorial for our beloved canine companion, Sydney Constance Coffey Helms.
