Bio
I know this May sound mean, but this is Find A Grave with the purpose of doing just that. Find the grave, take photos & inscribing accordingly. It is different from Ancestry.com where you can create family trees & enter information however you want.
Why can't I create a memorial according to headstone inscription without people sending me suggested edits to alter it according to baptism records & obits they find online?? Baptism record is documented in the bio. I researched it. I looked it up. I walked the cemetery & I TOOK the photo!! What's the purpose of Find A Grave?
It's NEVER the time to "cut corners " and not post 2 photos of a grave. To confirm some edits, it's necessary to look at the ENTIRE grave site & not just a close up. I appreciate all the volunteers work & wish I'd done a better job myself in the beginning.
I photograph entire cemeteries in my immediate area & work very hard at linking family members together & going the extra mile to do additional research. I document every headstone in the event that they might be vandalized or swept away in a flood or hurricane.
Regarding transfer requests: I take into consideration how long you've been a member on FAG & what you have contributed to the site. I work too hard on my research on memorials to transfer just because you're related. I'll gladly add any documented resources through suggested edits.
I research suggested edits before accepting so please include your source. I'm getting too many edits that are not accurate or conflict with what I have found. I like edits, but it's not my job to find your source to back it up. If you're not going to share your source, please don't send an edit. Edits will be declined if no source is provided. Thank you.
I like for my grave photos to tell a story. I now always take 2 photos. I take an overall view because family members are very likely to be buried next door or in that same area. I get asked that a lot., "do you know who is buried beside them." Then I take a closeup of the entire headstone with all the inscribed names. Closeups alone will not help you locate a grave in a large cemetery unless you have a plot/section location. Landmarks are very helpful.
I do not care about how many memorials I obtain or manage since I'm not in a contest to create the most. If you'd like a transfer, please ask. I will gladly do so if I am not related. For transfer requests please go to the memorial you'd like a transfer for; use the Suggested Edit Tab, type in your transfer request, and be sure to include your name & member number. I am always willing to transfer outside FAG guidelines. Please do not send transfer requests through the message section. I'm not in it for the numbers & neither should you.
Right or wrong, I enter my data from the headstone inscriptions. PLEASE DO NOT send me suggested edits asking for a first name change if there is no headstone photo posted yet to prove otherwise. This is after all, Find A Grave...not Find An Obit or Find a Father Hebert baptismal record. Just because you were baptized with a certain name doesn't mean you went to the grave with that name. If church records & headstone differ, use the bio section to add those remarks. Please transcribe headstone as it actually appears in grave photo & not by use of other secondary references. I will make notes in the bio section if I cross reference and find differences in name spelling or DOB or DOD. It is what it is and this should help keep duplications to a minimum. I do not & will not ALTER headstone name inscriptions.
