International Falls Journal Obituary of 10-27-1998
John "Jack" "Red" Pershing Monrean, 80, of International Falls, died Sunday, October 25, 1998, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born on July 14, 1918, in the Falls, to Grover and Delia (Ogren) Monrean. He lived in the area all his life except for three years he lived in Florida while serving in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 3 1942, to Nov. 4 1945. He was honorably discharged with the rank of seaman first class.
On May 21, 1944, in the Falls, he was united in marriage to Mary Welechenko of Fort Frances, Ontario. He worked for Mando and Boise Cascade for 44 years as a maintenance worker and tinsmith.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his dog Rex and making fishing tackle. He spent most of his spare time by the Franz Jevne State Park in Birchdale, selling minnows and visiting. He enjoyed the people he met there and made some great friendships along the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Audry, Mernsey and Fred Monrean;sister Emelyn Pelland; granddaughter Wendy Monrean.
Survivors include his wife Mary, of the Falls; children Dennis (Shellie) Monrean of the Falls, Judy (John) Plasky of Fort Frances, Beverly (Dani) Lind of Cannon Falls, MN, Randy (Carole) Monrean of Florence, MT, Steven (Mary Jo) Monrean of Detroit Lakes, MN; 11 grandchildren: Annie (Jamie) Dahl of the Falls, Jacki Monrean of Duluth, John Monrean of the Falls, Steven Plasky of Roosevelt, MN, Michael Plasky of Fort Frances, Kevin Lind and Dani Lind Jr, both of Cannon Falls, MN, Randy (Theresa) Monrean of Anchorage, AK, Todd Monrean of Missoula, MT, Stephanie Monrean of CA, Owen Peterson of Rice Lake, WI,; four great-grandchildren: Justyn, Erin, Mathew and Dakota; sisters, Norma (Ross) Trott of the Falls, and Helen (Einar) Palm of Colombia, MO.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. services on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Evangelical Covenant Church in the Falls. Pastor Larry Connors will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 of the Falls.
Following cremation, interment will be at Birchdale Cemetery in Birchdale, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck, MN.
Pallbearers will be Elmer Kittelson, Livio Lucca, Donald DeRaad, Levi Larson, Gerald Logdahl, Steven Plasky, Michael Plasky, Kevin Lind, Dani Lind Jr., Todd Monrean, John Monrean, and Randy Monrean Jr.
