Sharpsburg – CHARLES EDGAR HAMMOND, 84, of 301 W. Antietam Street died Saturday morning at the Washington County Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Sharpsburg, the son of John Henry and Barbara Ann Drenner Hammond. He retired from the Hagerstown Shoe Company in 1953.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harriett Howlett and Mrs. Mable Keplinger both of Hagerstown; three sons, Charles Gardener Hammond and James M. Hammond, both of Sharpsburg, and John E. Hammond, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, and 17 greatgrandhildren.
Funeral services were held at the Leaf Funeral Home, Sharpsburg; burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
