HARRIETT CHRISTIAN HOWLETT, 94, formerly of 17407 Wolford Ave. in Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Washington County Hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1911, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Leona Mabel Poffenberger Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Howlett, in 1989.

She was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co. She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, where she was a member of the Bykota Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Home League with the Salvation Army, and volunteered with the Alexander House Senior Citizens. She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Lois Wolford; one brother, James M. Hammond of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Keplinger; and three brothers, Ralph H. Hammond, Charles G. Hammond and John E. Hammond.
