Anne Eliza Merritt (nee Burneer) was born in 1843 to parents Peter and Phebe Jane Burneer in Blooming Grove, New York. According to family records, Anne was the eldest child of the family. She married James M. Merritt in 1859 (approx). James went on to be a Sergeant during the Civil War. Anne and James had four children: Estella (b.1861), Herbert (b.1864), James Edgar (B.1866), and Josephine (b.1869). They lived in Middletown NY for many years. In 1900, she and her husband James lived in New York City. Anne Eliza Merritt died at the age of 60 in New York City in 1903. Her husband James M. Merritt had died in 1902.

Anne Eliza (Burneer) Merritt is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Middletown New York (Section 5 Lot 1258) beside her husband James M. Merritt. Anne's sister Mary Belle (Burneer) Tyler and Mary's husband Henry Tyler are interred at a plot close-by. At the opposite side of the Tyler headstone, Anne's niece Carrie (Tyler) Marr, Carrie's husband Charles Marr, and Mary's grandaughter Adele (Marr) Meko were also interred. Henry and Mary's son Frank Tyler, Frank's wife Rose (nee Haas), their daughter Mildred, and Mildred's son Fred Bilgeshouse are interred at an adjacent grave on the same plot. Henry and Mary's son Harry - who had died at the age of three - is also interred with his own headstone (faded) on the same plot.
