Mr. Sidney P. "Sib" Dye, age 71, of Swords Creek, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Friday (October 26, 2012) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born February 19, 1941 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Chester and Sadie Mae Perkins Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner, having been employed at Pittston Coal Company Jewell Ridge Mine and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward Dye, J.C. Dye, John Henry Dye and Gene Dye; five sisters, Josie Keen, Norine Helton, Eaver Honaker, Peggy Dye and Virgie Dye; step-granddaughter, Michelle Bryant; father-in-law and mother-in-law, C. Dennie and Sallie Hess Spencer.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Mattie Spencer Dye of the home; one daughter, Diane Patrick and husband, Keith of Belfast, Virginia; one son, Freddie Dye and wife, Sherry of Pine Creek, Virginia; four grandsons, Jamie Patrick, Chris Dye, Jeff Dye and Mark Dye; two granddaughters, Brittany Dye and Sandra Dye; one great-grandson, Jaydon Caine Patrick; step-grandson, Nick Alton; two step-great-grandsons, Matthew Bryant and Dylon Bryant; two brothers, Donald Dye and wife, Lucy and Worley Dye and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dye, Rev. Phillip Cook and Rev. David Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery at Miller Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Dye, Raymond Dye, Gary Breedlove, Darrell Helton, Perry Dye, Doug Dye and Bernie Dye.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jamie Patrick, Chris Dye, Jeff Dye, Mark Dye and Dylon Bryant.
