Mr. Donald Robert "Don" Dye, age 81, of Swords Creek, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (June 19, 2013) at his home. Born May 30, 1932 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Chester Burk and Sadie Mae Perkins Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, He enjoyed bee hunting and digging ginseng roots. He was a retired coal miner with Dorothy Mae Coal Company and had worked in different coal mines for over forty years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Edward, J.C., John Henry, Sidney "Sib", Cecil, and Clarence Dye, five sisters, Josie Keen, Norine Helton, Evaer Honaker, Peggy Dye, and Virgie Dye, one infant grandchild, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennie and Sallie Hess Spencer.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Lucy Spencer Dye of the home; one son, Ricky Dye and wife, Thelma of Swords Creek; one daughter, Lisa Dye of Swords Creek; one brother, Worley Dye of Swords Creek; five grandchildren, Corie Belle Dye of Swords Creek, Trista Taylor of Honaker, Aaron Dye and wife, Emily of Swords Creek, Bobi Perkins and husband, Jeremy of Honaker, and Jessica Jackson and husband, Junior of Vansant; three great-grandsons, Dalton Taylor, Gage Dye, and Alex Perkins; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brian Easton and Home Healthcare and Hospice for all their special care.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Tommy Dye, Rev. Diane Cook, and Rev. David Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery on Miller Creek.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Dye, Ronnie Dye, Bernie Dye, Doug Dye, Raymond Dye, Dallas Dye, and Gabby Breedlove.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Taylor, Gage Dye, and Alex Perkins.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday and Friday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM both evenings.
