He was born September 11, 1901, in the town of Liberty, son of John and Caroline Fehrenbach Steffen. He attended St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Nazianz.
Mr. Steffen farmed in the town of Schleswig with his brother until retiring in 1977. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill.
Survivors include his brother, Richard of Rural Kiel.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.
A funeral Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, by the Rev. Reginald Schrimpf, pastor. Burial was in the Church cemetery.
