Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at
Christianson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic
Church, St. Nazianz, the Rev. Gregory Putzer, SDS, officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Steffen was born July 24, 1887, in the Town of Eden, son of the
late John and Caroline Fehrenboch Steffen. He married the former
Ida Poppenhagen at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz, June
19, 1906. He farmed until about 15 years ago when he retired. The
couple observed the golden anniversary of the wedding in June, 1956.
A few years later, Mr. Steffen's wife died. He was a member of St.
Gregory Holy Name Society.
Surviving are a son, Raymond, of School Hill, a daughter, Mrs. William
(Helen) Riesterer, of Rt. 2, Kiel, five brothers, Frank of New Holstein,
Joachim, of Rt. 1, Newton, and Richard, Carl and William, of Rt. 1,
Kiel, 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday where the
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
