St. Nazianz – Funeral services for Caroline Steffen, 78, who passed away Thursday morning at her home in town of Schleswig, near School Hill, will be held Saturday morning at Holy Trinity church, School Hill. The Rev. Solanus Freischmidt, S.D.S., will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Steffen was born Caroline Fehrenbach, Oct. 20, 1859, in Germany, and came to America in 1862 and settled with her parents at St. Nazianz. After her marriage to John Steffen the couple lived on several farms near St. Nazianz for many years. Her husband, two daughters and three sons preceded her in death.

Survivors are seven sons, Nick of St. Nazianz, John, William, Richard and Carl of School Hill, Jochim of town of Meeme, and Frank of Charlestown; 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Steffen was a member of the Christian Mothers of School Hill who will attend the funeral in a body.

The body may be seen at the home of her sons, Richard and Carl, Route 1 Kiel, until the time of services.
