Madelyn E. Bushnell, 79, a former oboist and board member of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, died Sunday in DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. Bushnell had been a Glen Ellyn resident since 1946. She was a professional oboist for 20 years and served as a board member of the DuPage Symphony for more than a decade. Mrs. Bushnell was a board member of the far west chapter of the Lyric Opera. "She was a wonderful lady," said Barbara Walters, the business manager for the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. "Music was everything to her. She was a passionate supporter of the orchestra and dedicated her life to it. It was always first and foremost." During the 1960s, Mrs. Bushnell taught kindergarten and 6th grade at Franklin School in Glen Ellyn. She was an active member of St. Petronille Catholic Church in Glen Ellyn. "My mother's emphasis as a teacher was in the arts, something the children's parents appreciated and enjoyed," said her daughter, Madelyn Braun. Other survivors include her husband, Howard; three sons, Howard E., Philip and John; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Petronille Catholic Church, 420 Glenwood Ave., Glen Ellyn.
