Birthname: Christina Mikalson Skolrood

Father: Mikal Christoforson Skolrood
Mother: Anna Maria (Olsdatter Bragelibakken) Skolrood

Siblings: Christian "Chris", Ole, Henry, Martin, Anna, John, Caroline "Carrie", Petra and Tillie Skolrood

1st Husband: Thomas Tennyson married Sept. 11, 1884 in Rock Co., WI. He was the son of Cornelius Tennyson and Helene W. (Torstenson) Tennyson.

2nd Husband: Christian Swanson (DOB: 10-6-1857) married April 1, 1886 in Wiota, Lafayette Co., WI. He was the son of Hans and the late Maren (Hønsi) Swanson of Gratiot, Lafayette Co., WI. (Christina and her brothers, Chris and Ole all married Swanson siblings).

Children: None - raised nephews, Alvin and Harry Skolrood, the sons of her brother, Chris and his wife Annie Swanson, her husbands half-sister/cousin.

Christina Swanson was born Nov. 8, 1860 in Norway. She was the fourth of ten children born to Mikal and Anna Skolrood. On April 28, 1866, at the age of 6 her family immigrated from Norway on the ship "Anna Delius" and arrived in Quebec, Canada where they then journeyed to the large Norwegian settlement of Gratiot Village, Lafayette Co, WI. Her family established a farm near the Swanson family.

On Sept. 11, 1884 she was married to Thomas Tennyson (sp?). Unknown what became of Mr. Tennyson.

On April 1, 1886 she was married to Christian Swanson, they had no children of their own but raised their nephews, Alvin and Harry Skolrood, the sons of her brother, Chris and his wife, Annie Skolrood after Annie died in 1892. (Annie was also her husbands half-sister/cousin). Christina passed away Feb. 27, 1917.

She was survived by husband, Christian Swanson; nephew, Harry Skolrood; brothers, Ole Skolrood and Chris Skolrood both of Gratiot, WI, Martin Skolrood of Canada; and sisters, Mrs. Anna Hagen, Carrie Skolrood, Petra Skolrood and Tillie Skolrood of Gratiot, WI.

She was preceded in death by nephew, Alvin Skolrood in 1912; father, Mikal Skolrood in 1879; mother, Anna Skolrood in 1895; brothers, John Skolrood in 1904 and Henry Skolrood in 1909.

Observing from records, the Skolrood family intially immigated to the US in 1866 under the name of Mikalson; for the 1870 census they were listed as Christoforson and by the 1880 census were using the name Skolrood, which was probably the Norweigian farm area (Scholrud or Skaalerud) they were from in Norway.

Some info from "Hønsi-Hanse Geneology - Records of the Descendants of Hans Gulbrandsen Hønsi in America", compiled by Fred A. Hanse in 1962.
