Tillie Skolrood was born Feb. 20, 1873 in Gratoit, Lafayette Co., WI. She was the youngest of ten children born to Mikal and Anna Skolrood. In 1866 her family had immigrated from Norway on the ship "Anna Delius" and arrived in Quebec, Canada where they then journeyed to the large Norwegian settlement of Gratiot Village, Lafayette Co, WI. She was raised and schooled in the Gratiot, WI area. She worked as a housekeeper and eventually moved to Madison, WI where she rented out rooms/apartments. She passed away at the age of 99 years on Sept. 27, 1972.
She was preceded in death by father, Mikal Skolrood in 1879; mother, Anna Skolrood in 1894; sisters, Carrie Skolrood, Mrs. Anna Hagen, Mrs. Christina Swanson in 1917, and Petro Skolrood in 1923; brothers, Martin Skolrood, John Skolrood in 1904, Henry Skolrood in 1909, Christian Skolrood in 1925, and Ole Skolrood in 1943.
Observing from records, the Skolrood family intially immigated to the US in 1866 under the name of Mikalson; for the 1870 census they were listed as Christoforson and by the 1880 census were using the name Skolrood, which was probably the Norweigian farm area (Scholrud or Skaalerud) they were from in Norway.
