Mary Owens passed from this life on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Mary graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1951 with a B.A. in Education. Her school career included being a high school choral director and a school librarian, but her real calling was teaching. She taught school in Spearsville, Moss Bluff, Evans, Simpson, West Monroe, and Alexandria, and spent many years as a 2nd grade teacher at Pineville Elementary. Mary loved teaching - it was her life. Her other interests included church, classical music, literature, the beach, flowers, her grandchildren and all of God's creatures.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Elmer Bailey and Willa Trotti Bailey; her husband, Wayne Owens; and her son, Mark Owens.
She is survived by two brothers and their wives; her daughter and husband; her son and wife; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to John Eskew Training Center.
