Sharpsburg - HELEN MAXINE CAMPBELL, 87, of 106 N. Hall St., died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Washington County Hospital. Born April 19, 1921, in Dundalk, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Michael and Helen Gertrude Thomas Neikirk.
She attended Sharpsburg and Boonsboro schools. She was employed by the Town of Sharpsburg as the town tax collector for 20 years, until retiring in 2002. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg. She helped with many dinner functions, served on the Altar Guild for many years and served as a lector. She was a member of Antietam Unit 236 American Legion, Sharpsburg, served as the first secretary of Sharpsburg Area EMS, was involved with Sharpsburg Heritage Festival, volunteered at Sharpsburg Elementary School as a tutor and served as a council person for the Town of Sharpsburg.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Allen Campbell, whom she married Nov. 11, 1950; one daughter, Dinah L. Young of Hagerstown; one son, Jerry F. Campbell of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg; burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
