Sister Francis Jerome Eckes, age 96, a member of The Franciscan Sisters
of Christian Charity, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem, with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Madeline Eckes was born April 22, 1906, in Sherwood, daughter
of the late John and Theresa Suttner Eckes. She entered the convent in
1912 and professed her vows in 1924. Sister Francis Jerome earned a
bachelor of science degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere. Sister
Francis Jerome served as an elementary teacher at St. Boniface and
Sacred Heart, Manitowoc; St. Mary, Reedsville; St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay;
St. John the Baptist, Plymouth; SS. Peter & Paul, Kiel; St. John,
Antigo; St. Mary, Clarks Mills; Sacred Heart, Oshkosh; St. Mary,
Brillion; St. Augustine, Chilton; St. Edward, Mackville; St. Thomas More
and St. Pius X, both of Appleton; St. Willibrord, Chicago, Ill.; St.
John, Marquette; St. Francis de Sales, Manistique, Mich.; and St.
Benedict, Cambridge, Ohio. After her retirement from the teaching
profession, she performed a variety of services at the Motherhouse.
Since 2000, she has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a
member of The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity along with
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday where a prayer service will be held
at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
