Funeral services for Dowthula Jo Asbury, 85, of Tishomingo, were held on Tuesday, July 28, at the Tishomingo Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Chad Townsley offiiating . Interment followed in the Russett Cemetery. Mrs Asbury passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Madill.

Jo was born on March 12, 1924, in Russett to Wyatt Lee Martin and Leatta Potts Martin. She was raised and attended school in Russett. She married Loren Egar Asbury on Dec. 27, 1945, in Arkansas City, Kansas. During World War II she worked in a factory that manufactured aircraft parts in Oakland, Calif.

She returned to Johnston County in 1089, where they owned and operated the Chief Motel in Tishomingo. Mr. Asbury preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1985.

Mrs. Asbury enjoyed painting pictures and bingo. She crocheted many baby gifts and loved her family dearly. The church, the Lord Jesus and her family were the joys of her life.

Jo was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Martin Asbury; and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Joni Fan of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Loren Clinton Asbury of Bartlesville, and Ron Asbury of Russett; her twin brother, Donald Martin and his wife Martha, of Ada; four grandchildren, Nory Asbury, Todd Asbury, Mark Asbury, and Marisa Asbury; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for the service were family and friends.

Services were held under the direction of Clark Funeral Service, Tishomingo.
