She received her early education in Cordele, Georgia. She met and married the late Nathan Brightwell. She later moved from Georgia and resided in Linden, New Jersey from 1934 to 2012. From this marriage six children were born into this family. Evelyn was employed for the Soble Family in Springfield, New Jersey where she retired.
Through her late son Dennis Brightwell, attending the noon day prayers on Wood Avenue, the Lord drew Evelyn in. She received salvation, sanctification and the Baptism of Holy Ghost and became a full member of Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church, Inc. under the leadership of the Late Founder, Bishop Mabel L. Colzie. She served vigorously in the church and later was appointed Church Mother and President of the local Missionary Department. She worked as an usher, worked the Holy Communion Table and worked faithfully as one of the head cooks in the kitchen. One of her favorite songs in devotional was "There's A Bright Side Somewhere, Don't You Rest until You Find It" and "I'm Just Holding On, Holding On and I Won't Let Go My Faith." Although few in number, she continued to keep the members inspired and motivated.
Subsequently, her Pastor recognized her faithfulness and diligent service to her church; she was appointed to the position of General Church Mother of the First Pentecostal Church of America, Inc. under the Leadership of our present Pastor and General President, Bishop G. Leach, DD and served faithfully within that position and many other auxiliaries of the church. She was reliable, dependable, devoted, loving, faithful and believed in obedience to the Word and working together. Mother Brightwell never stopped working on her own. She was a willing worker in God's vineyard. Noon Day Prayer warrior and attended service every night. No matter where service was held, she was there until she physical couldn't attend on her own anymore. Even in her affliction, she continued to support her church financially. Mother Brightwell was a living example of how Christ wants us to live as Christians. Her primary objective in life was to see souls drawn closer to Christ.
In the latter part of her life, she continued attending noon day prayer, Sunday Morning services, conventions and various meetings under the care of her baby son Nathaniel Brightwell, who took care of her for the last 4 years in his home. Well know as spoil brat, he daily handled her with loving care as a child was supposed to according to the Word of God. She never wanted for anything. Mom's reply to him was, "Thank You Nate for Taking Care of Me." Our General Church Mother Evelyn Brightwell was an extraordinary woman of God. She was one that believed in fasting, praying and supporting her church and will be dearly missed by all.
Mother was predeceased by her husband, Nathan Brightwell, a son, Dennis Brightwell, her sister, Beatrice Moore, son-in-law, William Blaine, daughter-in-law, Dolly Brightwell and grandson, William Brightwell, Jr.
