Sister Theodean Schroeder, age 94, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Saturday morning, May 15, 2010, at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc.
The former Marie Schroeder was born on March 5, 1916, in Oshkosh, daughter of
the late John and Louise (Wolf) Schroeder. She entered the Convent in 1932 and
professed her vows in 1935.
Sister Theodean Schroeder earned a license to practice as a nursing home
administrator from the Department of Health, State of Nebraska. She served as
an elementary teacher at St. Paul, Wrightstown; Holy Rosary, New Holstein; St.
Mary, Clarks Mills; Holy Innocents, Manitowoc; Corpus Christi, Sturgeon Bay;
St. Rose, Clintonville; St. Joseph, Green Bay; St. Mary, Bloomington; St. Mary,
Rhinelander; St. Joseph, Rice Lake; St. Mary, Kaukauna; all in Wisconsin, and
St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio.
Sister Theodean also served as administrator and local director at St. Joseph
Home, West Point, NE; a nurse aide at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc; parish
minister at St. Pius X, Appleton; visitor of the elderly at Holy Redeemer Parish,
Menominee, Mich.; and performed various services at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc
and SS Peter and Paul, Kiel.
Since 2002, Sister Theodean has been a resident at St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse in Manitowoc. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian
Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister: Lucille
Berndt, Oshkosh, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev.
Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem, with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc,
from 4 to 8 p.m Monday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family
Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements.

Silver Anniversary Celebrated
August 15, 1960 marked the silver jubilee of Sister M. Theodean OSF, in
her religious profession as a sister of the Franciscan Order at Holy
Family Convent, Manitowoc. Sister has been missioned at St. Paul's
School, West Wrightstown, Wis., Holy Rosary School, New Holstein, St.
Mary's School, Clarks MIlls, Holy Innocents School, Manitowoc; St.
Mary's School, Bloomington, Corpus Cristi School, Sawyer; St. Rose
School, Clintonville; St. Joseph School, Green Bay; St. Mary's School,
Delaware, Ohio; and in the past years at St. Mary's School, Rhinelander,
where she will be missioned during the coming school year.
Sr. Theodean has been taking primary grades for the past 25 years. She
has been active in catechetical work for the past 20 years, spending
Saturday and even Sundays between masses to lead souls closer to God.
Many summers were spent at religion vacation schools in areas where
there was no Catholic school. The past 10 years Sr. M. Theodean has been
active in CCD work.
The convent silver jubilee celebration took place Aug. 15. The family
will have a silver jubilee solemn high mass tomorrow at 8:45 am in
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oshkosh. There will be reception in the
parish hass for all classmates, friends, relatives and all parish
members from 3 to 5 pm. All are invited to participate. Costumed in
their Scottish kilts, the Belles of St. Mary's will honor Sr. M.
Theodean with a surprise program at 1:30 pm on Sacred Heart School
grounds. Guests and the public are invited.
