Carriel Eister Nipp peacefully passed to receive his Savior's hand on September 29, 2012. Carriel was born on October 17, 1927 and was raised on a farm near Blair, Oklahoma. He was the oldest son and the second of eight children born to Harold and Alice Nipp. He excelled in basketball and baseball at Blair High School and after graduation moved to Midland to play for the Midland Indians in the Longhorn Baseball League. Carriel was drafted in the Army in 1950 and served as a drill sergeant at Fort Riley Army base in Kansas. While there he led the base basketball team to two division championships. He married Mary Jannette Knox in 1950 and they returned to Midland in 1952. Upon arriving Carriel began his career in the Linen and Uniform business. He worked for Suprex Laundry in Midland and Odessa Laundry and Cleaners and was the owner of Snowhite Laundry and Cleaners for over 45 years. He was also a co-owner of General Service and Supply. Carriel was caring and generous to his employees and friends and was always ready to help someone in need. Carriel was also a lifetime member of the Midland Rotary Club and the National Laundry and Dry Cleaning Association.
Carriel and Jannette raised four daughters and a son while in Midland. He and Jannette are longtime members of Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Carriel was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and snow skiing with his family. Carriel shared his love of the outdoors with his children and instilled a great civic and work ethic in his family.
Carriel is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers, his daughter, Debra Nipp, and his grandson Matt Segulja.
Carriel is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Jannette Nipp of Midland; a son, Carriel Nipp, Jr, and wife Laurie of Raleigh, North Carolina; three daughters, Donna Yelverton and husband Tom of Houston, Dana Dickson and husband Russell of Garland, and Diane Segulja and husband Tom of Midland; 12 grandchildren, Taylor Nipp, Jessie Nipp and Grace Nipp all of Raleigh, North Carolina, Chris Yelverton, Emily Yelverton, and Sarah Yelverton all of Fort Worth, Mary Yelverton and husband Rich, of Midland, Maggie Dickson, Rachel Dickson, and Kate Dickson all of Garland, Texas, Olivia Segulja of Midland and Doug Segulja of New York, New York; three sisters, Linda Lo Baugh, Edith Biddy, and Carolyn Baily all of Oklahoma; and one brother, Don Nipp of California.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Golf Course Road Church of Christ, with Tim Baugh, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2012, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.
