James William Arnce, age 87, of Vanderpool, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 in Kerrville. He was born on August 19, 1925 in Prosperity, Missouri to Ervin William and Edith Euraine Schaeffer Arnce. On November 5, 1949 he married Florene Polvado in Stevensville, Arkansas.
Mr. Arnce proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded three Bronze Stars for his bravery during the European Campaign. He attended college in Joplin, MO, where he majored in pre-med. Mr. Arnce also attended seminary in Baxter Springs, Kansas, and shortly after became an ordained minister. He worked for Dupont Chemical in Missouri, before transferring to Dupont in Beaumont. Mr. Arnce retired from Dupont Chemical after 37 years. He was also known as a very talented artist.
Survivors include his wife, Florene Polvado Arnce of Vanderpool; daughters, Glenda Slaughter and husband Thomas of Vanderpool, and Kathy Johnson and husband Craig of Bryan; sister, Elois McClung of Joplin, MO; grandchildren, Nicholas Swift and wife Amanda, Jennifer Skrabanek, Meghann Skrabanek, and Christopher Johnson; and great-grandchild Hayden Skrabanek. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Judy Skrabanek in 2009, and three brothers, Clifford, Robert "Bob", and Harvey Arnce.
A graveside service will be held at Vanderpool Cemetery on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 2 pm.
