Robert Don Arnce, Sr., age 83 of Joplin, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born March 22, 1928 in Sapulpa, Okla., and was the son of the late William and Edith Uraine Arnce and lived in the Joplin area most of his lifetime.

A graduate of Webb City High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Pittsburg State University in 1961.
As a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, he served in the Medical Corps in Germany.
After the war, he was a chemist and plant supervisor for DuPont for 19 years, both in Carl Junction and in Seneca, Ill. He then worked for Atlas Powder as a supervisor for 21 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and very active in overseas missions. He helped build churches in many countries, and was especially devoted to a boy's orphanage in Maceio Brazil.

Bob was a member of Fellowship Lodge No. 345 A.F.& A.M., Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple of Springfield, Joplin Shrine Club and the Oriental Band Parade Unit.
He was a member of Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, the American Legion and a past member of Circus Fans of America, Merl Evans Tent.

On April 23, 1955 he married Ermadeen Mers at Carthage, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Robert D. Arnce, Jr., M.D. and wife Kara of Carl Junction; a brother, James W. Arnce of Bryan, Tex.; a sister, Eloise McClung of Joplin; two grandchildren, Mark and Luke Arnce of Carl Junction; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Harvey E. Arnce and Clifford Arnce, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at Forest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Wood and Rev. Charlie Burnett officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Family serving as pallbearers will be Don Arnce, Bob Arnce, Billy Arnce, Charles A. Arnce, Charles W. Arnce and Andy Stewart.
