On January 14, 1928 Velma was born to Bessie and Willis Mower in Fairview, UT.
She married Chauncey Owen Stewart on August 27, 1946. After Owen finished college, they settled in Southern California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple in 1963.
Velma always wanted to be a mother and then grandmother. She loved sewing, cooking, and gardening. Velma loved any excuse to have a party, getting family and friends together.
After Owen suffered a stroke, they moved to Utah. On June 14, 2000 Owen passed away, after almost 54 years of marriage. Velma always felt him watching over her.
The grandkids remember the unlimited cookie jar, the constant teasing, and the stories she read. Each of them felt they alone were her favorite.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She was a dedicated visiting teacher, always loving and serving her sisters.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Steve) Clarke of Cedar City, Karen (Ray) Rugg of Kearns, JoAnn (Bob) Adams of Lake Forest California, Elaine North (Shane Prestwich) of Cedar City, Janice (Ted) Steffensen of Cedar City, 24 Grandchildren and 48 Great Grandchildren along with all their spouses, her brothers, Reed (Peggy) Mower and Boyd Mower, sister-in-law Maridean Johansen, brother-in-laws R. L. (Carlene) Taylor, and Larry (Judy) Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Owen, sisters Fern and Helen, brothers Billy, Jay, and Dean, and a grandson Kevin Rugg.
Special thanks to her care givers Bonnie and Becky and her angel visiting teacher Nancy Goldthorpe.
