At a terrible shock to the family and friends came the announcement of the death at Memorial hospital Wednesday afternoon at 3:15 of James G. Benner, 34, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Benner, of west of the city, from pneumonia, following influenza. What makes the shock so dreadful to the parents and family is the fact that their daughter, Pearl L. Benner, lies dead at the Benner home, having passed away on Monday afternoon, the funeral to be held Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Benner was taken ill last week with the flu, and on Saturday was removed to the hospital from his home on north Buchanan Street.
He was exceedingly ill when taken to the hospital and the attending physician had very little hopes of his recovery. But the last chance was taken although it proved futile. James G. Benner was born in Washington township, June 10, 1884, and five years ago was married to Miss Hattie Dorr, who lies prostrated at their home over her husband's illness and death. They have one little daughter, Eillene, who is four years of age. Mr. Benner was one of the faithful employees of the Standard Oil Co., one of their truck drivers and was well and favorably known throughout Fremont and Sandusky County. His many friends will regret deeply his untimely demise.
He is survived by his grief-stricken wife and little daughter Eillene; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Benner, together with four brothers and three sisters: Irvin A., Forest G., Golland C., Harold C., Mrs. J. F. Doll, Mrs. Fred Ehlenbeck and Lulu R. Benner, at home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
