Moved to New York city at age 6 years old. Attended New York public schools, finished education in the College of the city of New York. Moved to Chicago, worked and studied at the firm of Burham and Root, Architects. Moved to Kansas City in 1886, started his own practice of Root and Siemens. Buildings he designed are as follows, Science Hall at Central College, Fayette, MO, Scarritt Bible and Training School, W J Smith warehouse, Thayer building. His firm is responsible for the Museum at Kansas University Cupples dormitory, Central college, Fowler shops, Postal Telegraph building, W J Smith plant and Riverside power-house, and others to many to mention. He was ranked as one of the great architects of the country.

Miss Lora Bullene became his wife in 1891.
