Mrs. Bengtson Dies; Born in Sweden in 1854
Mrs. Ludwig Bengtson (Charlotte Sophia Johnson) was born in Vastergottland Sweden, October 23, 1854. She came to America in 1880 and made her home in and around Essex, Iowa.
She was joined in marriage to Ludwig Bengtson in 1881 at Red Oak, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death on December 4, 1946.
To this union was born six children, two dying in infancy, Alex on January 13, 1947. three are left to mourn the deceased, Victor Bengtson and Mrs. Edith Almquist, both of Essex, and Mrs. Luther Swanson of Shenandoah.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lena Drew of California and Mrs. Alma Hetrick of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother Gust E. Johnson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bengtson died at her home, where she had been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Edith Almquist on June 14, at the age of 92 years.
She was a faithful member of the Mission Church for many years.
Pall bearers at the funeral were Robert Swanson, Elwin Almquist, Reynold Almquist, and Victor Bengtson, Jr., all of Essex, and Jack Bengtson and Erwin Bengtson of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
