Mary was one of six children born to William Patrick Delaney (1813-1860) and Emily Perchment (1814-1903).
Mary was a slender girl and very attractive and neat in her dressing and she always stuck to those dressy ways even when she was older in years. Her life was full of history, traveling and adventures during those dark days of the Civil War when she was a young married woman with a small family, two girls and a boy.
Tha Baughmans had 12 children: Emily, Suzanne, Pearl, Sadie, Mame, James, Frank, William, David, John, George, and Thomas. Pearl and Frank were twins.
She was still living when her son, William, was killed in a coal mine accident.
