Anderson Cornett was the son of James and Eliza Cornett. He married Susanna Cornett ca. 1887. They had nine children: Annie (Cornett) Hogg, Grant Cornett, Arch Cornett, Gideon Cornett, Lilly Cornett, Fernando C. Cornett, McKinley Cornett, Granville Cornett and Blaine Cornett.

Anderson Cornett Killed by Train

Anderson Cornett, age 81, of Blackey, Ky., was killed instantly by an L. & N. Local Freight Train Monday afternoon, while walking along the tracks on his way home from the funeral of a neighbor, Mrs. Mary Fields. Mr. Cornett was a very active man for his age and was interested in all local activities. He was well-known and loved by all who knew him. He spent his entire life in the Blackey neighborhood.

He is survived by--One daughter, Mrs. Anna Hogg, Blackey; six sons: Arch Cornett with whom he made his home; T. C. Cornett, Lilly Cornett, McKinley Cornett, Granville Cornett, Blaine Cornett, all of Blackey. One sister, Mrs. Judy Campbell, Ulvah, Ky.; three brothers: James Cornett, Linefork; Tilden Cornett, Hazard; Luther Cornett, Waynesburg, Ky. and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildrn.

Services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Cornett Tuesday evening and funeral services in the Cornett Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon by Revs. Tip Cornett and James Wright. Burial in the Cornett Cemetery, Evans Funeral Home in charge.

Anderson Cornett, 83 Killed by Train Near Blackey

Anderson Cornett, 83, was killed instantly Monday afternoon just above Blackey by the daily local train, according to report reaching The Eagle. He had been to attend the funeral of Mary Fields at Roxana and had almost reached home when the tragic accident happened. He had made his home with his son, Arch for the past few years. Besides this son he is survived by the following children: Nando of Blackey; Lily, Blaine, Granville, and McKinley who are employed in defense work in Dayton, Ohio, but whose homes are here, and one daughter, Mrs. Leslie Hogg, and a number of grandchildren, including seven grandsons overseas. Uncle Ance as he was known to everyone had been a resident of Blackey community for more than 50 years, having reared his family here. His wife, Mrs. Susanne Cornett, and two other sons, Grant and Gideon preceded him in death many years ago, the two sons both being victims of the train near the scene where their father was killed.
