Charlene DaVault (Roff) James a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Denison, Texas at the age of 89 years 10 months and 26 days. She was born in Nida, Oklahoma to William Wellington 'Bill' DaVault and Lizzie Catherine (Lawson) DaVault on Tuesday, May 22, 1923. Charlene married for the first time to Denton Roff on August 16, 1942 and then to Leslie James on October 9, 1953.

Charlene lived her Christian beliefs and helped many people during her lifetime. She attended the Northwest Church of Christ and was a member since 1974. Charlene was involved in many civic organizations like the Odd Fellows to which she became Noble Grand and Bryan County Homemakers Club for more than 40 years. She was very proud of her membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy because her grandfather DaVault fought in the Civil War. Charlene attended a two-room school house in her youth. She worked for White's Ready to Wear for 4 years in Durant, Okalhoma. Charlene loved sewing and canning, entering many of her creations in the Bryan County Fair and she won many, many blue ribbons. She will be remembered by her family and friends for the beautiful quilts she made by hand.

Mrs. James is survived by her daughters, Elaine (James) Crook and husband Danny of Denison, Texas and Holly (James) Means and husband Bryan of Colbert, Oklahoma; step- daughters, Angia Martignoni and husband Norm of Morrow Bay, California, Glenda Allmon and husband Bobby of Durant, Oklahoma and Donna Lane and husband Kenneth of Silo, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Misty Murphree and husband David of Mead, Oklahoma, Mandy Krebs of Dension, Texas, Wendy Farr of Durant, Oklahoma, Jerry Sanders and wife Reanne of Garland, Texas, Julie Collins and husband Ronald of Virginia, Charla Ridgeway of Calera, Oklahoma, Dee Ann Turley Pomeroy of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Johnny Henderson of Colbert, Oklahoma, Nena McClure and husband Paul of Mead, Oklahoma, Charlene also had 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren along with 2 nieces, Oleta Simmons and Melba Smith of Lubbock, Texas and two nephews, Bill Liles of Vidor, Texas and Charles Watkins of Lubbock, Texas, along with many friends and her extended family at Northwest Church of Christ, with special thanks to Diane and Paul Mauck and Reba and James Shields.

Mrs. James was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lizzy DaVault; first husband, Denton T. Roff; second husband, Leslie H. James; daughters, Denena Jo (Roff) Kendal and Carol Jean Roff; sisters, Fay Rampy, Mary Seawright, Grace Liles, Della Williams and Geggie Watkins.

Charlene's Northwest Church of Christ Family will be serving lunch to the family at 12:00 p.m.on Monday before the service. Family Hour will be from 3-4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Northwest Church of Christ with Paul Mauck, Mickey Davis and Brother Donald Gelles officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Murphree, David Herron, Herb Manning, Alex Murphee, Andy Murphree and Charlie Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlene's Sunday School Class.

The family suggests that donations may be made in Mrs. James honor to Breast Cancer Research or the Northwest Church of Christ. Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
