Alfred L. Hanes lost his life in a railroad accident at McCook, Nebraska while he was brushed by a passenger train while sweeping out the snow-covered switches on the Burlington Railroad. He was 46 years of age. The accident occurred about a mile east of the McCook depot and it is reported that when he saw the lights of the approaching Denver Zephyr, he stepped too close to the main track and was brushed by the engine of the train. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters who live in Culbertson, Nebraska. Alfred was born in Iowa and lived many years in the Parks community. He was the son of the late George Marvin and Mary Alice Hanes of Parks. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by six brothers and four sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services are to be held at the Methodist Church in Culbertson, Nebraska and interment in the Culbertson, Nebraska cemetery.
