Wayne was born in Iowa and moved with his parents to Kansas and Nebraska as a young man. He later moved to North Carolina and married the love of his life in 1941. Wayne was inducted into military service at Ft. Bragg, N. C. in January 1942. His duties included in part the care of returning wounded soldiers from the European Theatre Operations and later was assigned to a transport ship for overseas to bring back transport. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to work for R. J. Reynolds Co. until his retirement in 1975. He and his wife observed their 50th wedding anniversary in September 1991. They were blessed with one son.
