Jack T. Alkire, 80, died at 6:25 AM Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Home Hospital. He had been a patient there since Dec. 31. Mr. Alkire was a truck driver for National Homes for 24 years, retiring in 1980. He formerly was a driver for Bud Marks. Born Nov. 11, 1918, in Francesville, he graduated from Francesville High School in 1938 and lived in Lafayette for 52 years. He married Betty J. Timmons on Jan. 18, 1947, in Lafayette, and she survives. Mr. Alkire attended Bethany Presbyterian Church, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 543. Surviving with his wife are three sons, Rick Alkire, Kim Alkire, and Terry Alkire, all of Lafayette; a daughter, Pamela S. (Mrs. Tommy) Holland of Lafayette; three sisters, Rusty Hancock of Francesville, Marjorie Robinson of Hammond, and Marcella Boehning of Lafayette; three brothers, Jay "Cheesie" Alkire of Medaryville, Robert Alkire of St. John, and Donald Alkire of Avon Park, FL; five grandchildren, Mindi and Derick Holland; Sarah, Brook and Dru Alkire; daughters-in-law, Susan and Glinda Alkire; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, Max Alkire. Service Jan. 8 at Hippensteel Funeral Home, the Rev. Ann Smith officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
