Henry was born next to the Natchez Trace near Bay Springs, Mississippi before the town was embayed by the Tombigbee project. His parents were Dr. Henry Leonidus Tynes and Mattie Rogers Tynes. He married Annie Georgia Davis, daughter of Horace and Mary J. Harris Davis, November 21, 1910 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. They came to Louisiana about 1915 with his older brother Dr. Humbert Alphonse Tynes who died in St. Helena Parish. The children of Henry and Annie Tynes were: Wendell H. Tynes (1911-1942); Reece Carl Tynes (1917-1993) who was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack; Edward/Edwin Tynes 1921 and Annie Tynes 1922. The two youngest were adopted by Annie's brother Reece C. Davis of West Point, Clay County Mississippi after their mother was committed to the Jackson State Asylum where she died. Their son Wendell was a writer and was killed while he was "up North" somewhere and his body thrown from a train. Henry and his son R.C. lived the rest of their lives in the Jackson, Louisiana area. Henry tried farming on an island in the Amite River, then built a general store and owned a "juke joint" for a while. Henry was a crack shot, despite having only one eye, and could shoot a squirrel from a moving truck. He was a game warden in 1930. In 1940 he was listed as Postmaster. He died at the age of 98 in Jackson, Mississippi.
